Nickie's Birthday Crawfish Boil

We decided to have a crawfish boil for Nickie's birthday meal. We called grandpa who came over and worked very hard with Kevin for several hours on "technical difficulties" with the boiling equipment. That gave the kids lots of time with the crawfish who were, unbeknownst to them, about to sacrifice themselves for our dining pleasure.

Caroline watched Mack and Jack try to build up their courage to hold a crawfish.

You can almost see the little wheels in her mind spinning here, planning her attack.
There was a crawfish on the ground and one by one, Mack and Jack had each gone to it and tried to pick it up, but got yucked out and gave up. Caroline saw and ran right up to it, grabbed it, held it in her fist, and immediately started chasing them with it and laughing.

At this point, I feel the need to explain that the claws had already been taken off of this particular little mud bug, not that it would have mattered at all to Caroline. I only wish I could show a close up of the crawfish here, being squeezed so tightly in Caroline's little fist. His black eyes were bugging out even more than usual and I think I heard him begging for the water to hurry and boil!
Here she is trying to hand it to Jack. She really didn't see what the big deal was. Notice Jack's stick. More evidence of crawfish torture.

Finally, the courage was built and each one of them held a crawfish. I'm sorry to report that his wasn't THE crawfish. In an act of mercy, we threw him over the fence to freedom. After all, it was the least we could do.
