A Tree Is Nice

We headed out with Nick and the kids last weekend to Vincent's Christmas Tree Farm in Kaplan to cut down our own tree. We spent a lot of time looking for the "perfect" tree for the Wrights and another for the Wolfes, and let me tell you, that is not a small farm. And there was mud. And mosquitos, lots of mosquitos.
It took Mack and Jack a little longer to settle on a tree than it did us, but Caroline was happily stomping around in the mud, stumbling, occasionally trying to lick mud off of her fingers like it was chocolate icing, and picking up small sticks to wave in the air at anyone who came near.
Kevin was ready with boots, gloves, and a freshly oiled chain saw. Unfortunately, when we got there we were told that there were no chainsaws allowed. (We later noticed the older man who owned the farm travelled on an ATV with a chainsaw, but we tried to keep that fact from Kevin!). Instead, they gave us a small handsaw and a wagon. It took quite a while, a lot of sawing, and a little shaking the tree back and forth to coax it out of the ground, but one and a half hours after we got there, we drove away with two beautiful trees. And a couple of funny memories. And a few photos.

They really loved the tree they chose!

Notice the girls are just standing back and watching the work...

I only wish this was a closer-up close-up because you'd be able to see the mud on her face!
